Political Roulette: The Blindness of Gun Politics

In my last blog, I gave you my personal thoughts on the Baseball Hall of Fame.

The difference is; that is a game, today we step back into the somber reality that is this world and take a look at one of the top stories in this nation

————————————————————————————-

In the wake of the tragedy at Sandy Hook Elementary School, this nation has been in desperate need of some soul-searching. Instead, we have begun to see the knee-jerk reactions of those in power and effort to placate political pressures. Unfortunately, it now looks like that responsible gun owners will pay the price for those who commit these unimaginable crimes.

Just to be clear, I completely understand the sentiments of the parents of Sandy Hook. If a child of mine had been slain that day, I think I would also be standing there and trying to find answers.

When our founding fathers placed the Second Amendment in our Constitution, They wanted to guarantee that no foreign power would ever invade us without a fight. However, the threat to our national security no longer solely remains on distant shores.

The Second Amendment was also applied to any domestic entity (up to and including The Federal Government) in order to dissuade the oppression we saw under The Crown.

Fast-forward to January 16, 2013. In the usual quid pro quo, those in power invoked the images of Sandy Hook to trumpet what the American media have called sweeping gun-control reform. During his remarks, the president still said he was in favor of the Second Amendment.

I don’t know about you, but someone who is protected twenty-four seven by armed guards would absolutely have to agree that they’re in favor of that.

What I don’t understand is why is it that responsible Americans are made to pay for irresponsible mistakes?

Maybe it’s my youth. Maybe it’s the fact that I have studied history so closely in understanding what could happen if the right to bear arms is slowly and quietly pulled away from the American people.

I am neither an alarmist nor a conspiracy theorist, I am simply an American youth who, like the country has seen these tragedies unfold and have always been left wondering why responsible people are always the first to pay the price of tragedy?

Do we really want to be poorly armed or the worst-case, disarmed when a real threat comes knocking at our door?

Ask survivors of the Holocaust….

Ask surviving Soviet dissidents…

Ask former Chinese political prisoners…

Ask those who face the cartels in Mexico…

Ask political dissenters in Iran and anywhere else in the extremist occupied Middle East…

Ask those fearing for their lives in Africa…

If you watch the news every day, I think you will see why people who are responsible and competent enough must be allowed to defend themselves and those they care about.

If you were able to stop a madman would you?

Where do you stand on the issue?
